The meaning of Universiade

The word “Universiade” comes from “university” and “Olympiad”, and means Olympic Games for students.

The Universiade is an international sporting and cultural festival which is staged every two years in a different city and which is second in importance only to the Olympic Games.

The Summer Universiade consists of 10 compulsory sports and up to three optional sports chosen by the host country.

The ten compulsory sports are

Athletics
Basketball
Fencing
Football
Gymnastics
Swimming
Diving
Water Polo
Tennis
Volleyball

 

 

The Winter Universiade consists of 6 compulsory sports and one or two optional sports also chosen by the host country.

The compulsory sports are :


Alpine skiing

Nordic skiing (jump, cross country, combined)
Ice Hockey
Short-Track
Speed Skating
Figure Skating
Biathlon

Meeting place for students from all over the world

The Universiades and Championships are open to all student athletes that have not been out of university or its equivalent for more than a year and that are between 17 and 28 years old. Any association which belongs to FISU may enter a team or an individual competitor. Entries are accepted from any country which is eligible for the Olympic Games and from any national federation which is affiliated to an appropriate International Federation.

Universiade 2005 Athlets Village


World University Summer Games Athletes Village consist of six different types of houses along with its social facilities and business buildings. The Houses constructed by the Municipality, will accommodate athletes participating in 23rd University Summer Games .They will be handed over to their actual owners after the Games.

The flowery terraces and green touch, that will combine the advantages of common life, providing parking lots, training facilities, shopping center, sporting areas, social facilities, leisure possibilities and economic infrastructure solutions, of the World University Summer Games Athletes Village, will carry on, the lively memories of 23.rd University Summer Games, going to host thousands of athletes from the five continents.

The construction of the World University Summer Games Athletes Village, which is founded on a 350.000sqm area and consisting of 934 houses and social facilities, has reached 50% completion. The construction of the village housing the residences along with health-doping center, press support units, public relations units and religious center, will be completed in February, 2005.

World University Summer Games Athletes Village is being constructed on a valley as terrace houses. These terrace houses ascending like a stair way, and not obstructing each others view are offering an independent villa comfort and ten storey high buildings having complete view of the valley, also intends to offer all the advantages of modern
